Do you wonder if you have a leak in the pool?  Does the water level seem to be dropping quickly or do you notice wet spots around the pool or equipment?

If you think you may have a leak, you should address it as soon as possible for several reasons.

  1. Pool Structure.  The avoidance of a pool leak can lead to damage and affect the integrity of the pool and other surrounding structures.  Addressing them as soon as you believe there is a problem can save you money on costly repairs.
  2. Conserving water.  If you are concerned about a pool leak, chances are you are topping up the water on a regular basis.  Not only will this increase your water bill over time, but the unnecessary loss of water is not environmentally responsible.
  3. Chemical waste.  As the water is leaving your pool, you are also losing the chemicals you have added to make the pool healthy for bathers.  As you are adding more water, you are adding more chemicals to treat the water.

Not all leaks are found in the liner or body of the pool, some leaks can be from equipment or from underground piping.  Ensure you are looking for leaks in all possible locations.  If you are unsure if you have a leak, we recommend completing the bucket test to determine if you are dealing with a leak or if your water loss is only due to evaporation.  To find the instructions for the bucket test, please follow this link:  https://www.rrpools.ca/blog/swimming-pool-leak-how-to-perform-the-bucket-test/

Checking for leaks as soon as you suspect there is one is the best way to preserve water, chemicals and to prevent further damage.  Regular inspections during opening and throughout the year can help detect issues early so they can be fixed before a more substantial issue occurs.
